August Maintenance Report
One focus of this month was the
monitoring of the new sod. We made
daily site visits during the first part of the
month. The visits consisted of checking
irrigation controllers for proper
operation and looking for broken
irrigation heads.
 After some final sod
replacements, we fertilized and sprayed
for turf weeds on the 26th. Chinch bugs
have continued to be sprayed. T
here has
been
some sod damage by chinch bugs
on the East end of the property that we
will replace.
SOUTHFORK CDD
With the need to run the irrigation more due
to the new sod, there has been additional
opportunity for vandalism of the irrigation
heads. The damage appears to be done
when the system is operating and someone is
breaking the riser stems of the sprinkler
heads as they walk or ride a bike along the
sidewalk, breaking about 5 to 10 heads in a
row on a single zone. At the end of the
month, we cut back some run times/days.
Hopefully, this will give the vandals less
opportunity to cause damage.
Nut sedge is still a major nuisance in turf
and shrub beds. Treatment is continuing
and appears to be progressing slowly.
The street trees were limbed up to
provide clearance along the sidewalk and
roadway. There are some weaker areas
of sod that were not replaced that will be
sprayed weekly with iron to help the
appearance.
